Last Sunday I visited the Trunk Show which showcases locally made bespoke products and is held on the 1st weekend of every second month. With a promise of bubbly and snacks I headed to Capelli On The Bay on Blaauwberg Road and met organiser Catherine from Mr and Ms clothing. This is shopping taken to the next level in a relaxed environment where quality has overtaken quantity.
I was very happy to meet Nicola from Off the Board Design who designs and makes the most beautiful soft toys – my favourite are the travelling foxes who each have their own story. After chatting with her I found out that she is the designer behind the soft doll patterns in the February issue of Ideas magazine (worth buying). I loved the pattern and I have good intentions to sew the dolls one day. Fran is the designer behind Hello Nünü and the cute knitted animal beanies are her’s and are made to order. She also has a range of knitted clothing, bedding, and summer dresses.
Other local designers at the Trunk Show included footwear by Luli Pulani, handbags from The Pink Pincushion, photographer Don Robertson from Dream State Photography, and personalised and inspirational canvas prints and gift cards from Mind Print. The venues change so keep an eye on their facebook page to see where and who will be at the next show.
