Knitting is my new favourite hobby, and has proven to be a great source of relaxation. Well, that is when I’m not having to rip out stitches and start from scratch! I decided to up my game from knitting squares, and progressed to knitting baby clothes. Not satisfied, I decided to set myself an even bigger challenge and purchased the Little Cotton Rabbits knitting patterns.
Knitting for beginners
On the hunt for practical and easy knitting patterns, I tried and tested a number of baby items. Knitting for babies is such much fun, as the outfits are so adorable and the projects can be completed relatively quickly. You can read my blog post baby gifts for beginners with links to my recommended free knitting patterns.
Learning new skills
My knitting skills are mostly self taught, thanks to the many fantastic blogs and YouTube channels out there. Unsure whether I could read some of the more complicated patterns, my local wool shop owner assured me that everything was possible if I work one line at a time.
This advice reminded me of my music lessons, where I would have to play one bar of music over and over until it was perfected. Looking at a composition as a whole can be daunting, but practicing each section at a time until you have mastered the entire piece of music is achievable.
So reassured that I could push my knitting skills further, I went on the hunt for the perfect pattern. After many hours of searching through Pinterest, I fell in love with the adorable bunnies, foxes, lambs and bears from designer Julie Williams. Little Cotton Rabbits
Julie Williams is a talented knitter and award-winning blogger. She is the designer of the Little Cotton Rabbits, a family of knitted animal creatures who love to dress up. You can view her entire range on her blog and on Ravelry.
These knitting patterns are for intermediate skill level, and take a few days to complete. They are fiddly, with many parts needing to be stitched together, and require a fair amount of patience. The reward is worth it, and everyone will admire the detail which has gone into each toy.
Only for display
Little Cotton Rabbits are better suited for decoration and as collectibles than toys. They will not withstand rough play and contain small parts. Adults and children alike will fall in love with these creatures, and can enjoy them with delicate play.
Since we love to dress-up are toys, the animal dresses, sweaters and shorts are designed to be removable. Julie provides clothing patterns with levels of difficulty from easy, moderate to difficult. Dress designs are worked in mostly fair isle and duplicate stitch. I would recommend purchasing the seasonal dress patterns, as it includes more sleeve options as well as design ideas.
