Johnson’s Baby Sense Seminars & Giveaway

With such a wealth of information available to expectant moms and new parents, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of facts or to be confused by different points of view and opinions. The Johnson’s Baby Sense seminars are now in its 12th year and are designed to convey concise and expert information to moms-to-be and new parents with babies up to 12 months of age. The parenting experts this year include Sr Ann Richardson (co-author of Baby Sense and Sleep Sense), Tina Otte (midwife and special editor of Your Pregnancy), Lizanne du Plessis (OT and author of Raising Happy Children), Kate Bailey (OT and early childhood development and stimulation expert) and Dr Welma Lubbe (registered nurse and advanced midwife with qualifications in neonatal nursing science).

A Johnson’s Baby Massage Workshop takes place between the two sessions and will teach moms the benefits of sensory stimulation and provide tips for baby massage and how parents can communicate with their baby through touch and massage.

Parents of budding little cyclists should diarise the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour Juniors on Saturday, 7 March 2015. A treat is in store for them as the event promises tons of fun, prizes and great activities guaranteed to keep all ages entertained for a fun-filled morning outdoors.

Youngsters between the ages of 0 and 6 years can enjoy a 1.7km fun ride which will introduce them to the basics of cycling in a safe and controlled environment.  The older kids between the ages of 6 and 12 years can tackle the 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km or 10km routes which will help them develop their cycling skills. Parents must accompany the 1.7km route entrants on foot, while the participants tackling one of the longer routes can be accompanied by a parent on a bike.

To ensure that all riders have a pleasurable and fun experience, entries will once again be limited to a “first-come, first-serve” basis, so parents are encouraged to enter their children early to avoid disappointment. Online entries for the Cape Town Cycle Tour Juniors will close on Monday, 23 February. Registration will take place between 28 February and 6 March 2015 at the Canal Walk Shopping Centre, where entries can still be purchased.  No entries will be accepted on event day. Cape Town International Kite Festival on 1 & 2 November

Cape Town International Kite Festival 2014The 20th Cape Town International Kite Festival, proudly hosted by Cape Mental Health, will take place in Muizenberg on 1 & 2 November 2014. This is Africa’s biggest kite festival and a wonderful day out with the family to inspire children to design and fly their own kites. They will be able to see some amazing kite creations from across the world, including Toothless from ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ making his first African flight.

Local kite-makers have a chance to win prizes in the Heritage Kite Competition. The Heritage Kite Award will go to the best ‘Swaeltjie’, a traditional swallow-shaped kite that came to Africa from South-East Asia hundreds of years ago. People can also learn how to make a Swaeltjie at free workshops during the festival, run by master kite-maker Ebrahim Sambo from Athlone. There will also be on-stage entertainment, food stalls and market, for family fun in support of a good cause. Tyger Valley Baby & Toddler Expo 2-5 October

Tyger Valley Baby and toddler expoTyger Valley Centre’s Baby & Toddler Expo kicks off today and runs from 2 – 5 October. Join parents and expecting moms, as various famous baby and toddler brands will be on display throughout the Centre, showcasing the very best in products and services; and helping you to prepare as you enter this new and exciting stage of your life. Party planners can expect kids’ party and entertainment offerings to blow you away with fabulous ideas at this Expo.

While you learn from the experts, don’t forget to visit the Arena for some funtastic entertainment! While Nadine Blom takes to the stage, your little one can also look forward to a puppet show, fashion shows by Sticky Fudge, kiddies sing and dance productions, a jumping castle, train rides, candy floss and much more! The entertainment kicks off at 11:00 and entry is free of charge – all proceeds raised will be in aid of MES (Mould Empower Service). As the work that MES does is very close to the Centre’s heart, each exhibitor will have a donation tin on their table, in order to assist in raising funds for this NGO.

This year at Baba Indaba in Cape Town between 1-3 August, there is a fantastic list of exhibitors and brands for one-stop shopping. The benefit of going to an expo is that you get to discuss the products with the producers/distributors, the variety of brands to choose from and the special offers. It’s a pity I won’t be able to attend this year as I know a number of the exhibitors and here’s a round up of some of my featured exhibitors with links to my reviews. Be sure to pop in and say hello. Greenpop Platbos Reforest Fest in May

Greenpop Platbos Family FestThe Platbos Reforest Fest in May is a festival with a difference and is held in the ancient Platbos forest just outside Gansbaai. A very nice guy, Will, who is helping with the festival sent me all the details. The Platbos Reforest Fest will take place over two weekends in May – the Family Fest (family oriented) from 9-11 May, and the Friends Fest (a bit more of a party on the Saturday night) from 16-18 May. At the Family Fest, 3000-4000 trees will be planted, as well as fun and educational forest activities for all ages. Tree planting, forest dancing, and a night under the stars!

Tickets include 6 meals (Friday dinner to Sunday lunch), live music, tree planting, yoga, forest walks, camping & more. You can bring your own tent or book alternative accommodation nearby.
